Pathophysiology Week 2 Case 3

Unstable Angina

CORRECT     CLINICAL REASONING:
Pt was experiencing myocyte ischemia caused by either a vasospasm or plaque from a clogged artery. She has no h/o CAD and has had long standing diabetes. Her EKG was normal so we can rule out an acute MI, her troponins were normal so we can r/o NSTEMI but she did not have a stress test to r/o CAD. A stress test needs to be done with imaging to see if she has narrowed cardiac arteries. IF this is neg and chest pain continues she will meet the criteria for a cardiac cath. Remember STRESS tests are still screening tests.
